Jon Moe knew he loved photography the day he asked his mother to borrow her camera to take pictures of his new dog when he was 8yrs old. He still remembers the day the photo came back (yes it was in the film days) a slightly blurred image of a black and brown puppy running in the green grass around his feet. It was magic, and he was hooked. In high school he was the newspaper photographer and shot art landscapes on the side. Then while teaching skiing at Sundance he met a photographer, Bruce Weber, who asked to shoot him for an italian magazine. A few weeks later Bruce asked if he wanted to shoot Calvin Klein with him, and that introduced him to fashion photography. It opened a whole new world of photography for Jon. He worked all over the world and enjoyed getting to know a lot of great photographers and designers. One of the most memorable was working with, and getting to know, Gianni Versace.
Eventually he moved to New York City, where he finished his degree in fine art and english literature at Columbia University while modeling; and then he started assisting for photographers like Sante D'Orazio, Torkil Gudnason and others. While assisting, he started getting assignments for magazines like Glamour and Zink. He now works full time in New York City and loves the opportunity to work with amazing clients.
He is also very happy that the demand for moving images has grown. He studied film and screen writing at Columbia and has shot student films, commercials and fashion spots.
It is a very exciting time to be in photography. Advances in camera equipment and software have improved the quality and possibilities of imagery; and the cost of making high end films is no longer exclusively in Hollywood. He loves the challenges of using imagery to elevate the clients he works with and to show the beauty so abundantly around us.
